Repeated Ken Burns in iMovie

Let's say you have a still image in iMovie, and you do the usual Ken Burns on it. The limitation of Ken Burns is you can only have 1 start and 1 end point. What if you want to focus on a few things? Want to start a new one where the old one left off? Continually zoom in on different areas in the image? It's hard to align the next clip where the first one left off. I faced this problem when, after my Ken Burns, I wanted to dim the image, except a certain area, to draw attention there.

Just copy the clip after setting the Ken Burns, paste it after the original and swap the Ken Burns start and end points. This way you can set a new end point. Or you can crop instead of Ken Burns, so the whole clip will be the end point, effectively freezing the final position.

I used the second method, exported an image to Photoshop, dimmed it, and returned it to iMovie.

Import photos into iMovie without using iPhoto

Apple products are great - if you use all their products. I wanted to use a folder of photos in iMovie, and I don't use iPhoto. I'd done it before, but I couldn't remember, so I'm writing it here.

First open the photo browser in iMovie and drag the divider so you can see the list of sources:

Then just drag the folder you want into that list.

VERY serious bug in iMovie '09

How serious is a bug? How about not saving your work? That makes the program effectively useless. In fact, it has negative use since it's wasting your time! iMovie '09 is supposed to save your work automatically - there are no save options - BUT IT DOESN'T! Fortunately, I finished a satisfactory version of my work and exported it, because when I opened iMovie today, some of my changes were gone! I pity the people who worked for hours and lost their work. This makes me feel that even with automatic saving, you need a manual option.

Looks like iMovie '11 has the same problem! I'm steering clear of Apple software for a while.

Some people say iMovie '09 8.0.5 works, but I'm using 8.0.6, and I just came across this problem. Now searching for a way to "force-save".
