Alarm Clocks

I really want an alarm clock that tells you "alarm set for x hours from now" whenever you set an alarm.

• I don't want sleep analysis of times, sounds or movements
• I don't want to be woken during light sleep within a period of time
• I don't want a reminder of when to sleep
• I don't want night/yellow light modes
• I don't want fancy sounds, weather or news reports 
• I DONT WANT TO SOLVE PUZZLES TO TURN OFF THE ALARM

And I had a look at 3rd-party alarm clocks, this feature also isn't very common. But it looks like even for apps that have it, they're a poor replacement for the iOS clock, because they can't override the silent switch, and maybe even Do Not Disturb. Also running in the background severely restricts their notifications.

BlogTouch (Blogspot/Blogger app)

It's 2017, there's MORE social media available on mobile than on web browsers, but blogspot has been abandoned by google or something. I'm testing BlogTouch, a 3rd-party app that lets you post to blogspot blogs. It shouldn't be so hard!

Blocking Advertising Servers

Most of our online services are paid for by advertising, so I don't want to block all ads. However, there are unscrupulous and even malicious ads out there that have to be blocked. Previously, we saw how to block ads on computers. Here are more options:

Block ad domains on your router
Advantages: works on all the devices on your network
Disadvantages: your router must support it. Might be a limit to the number of sites you can block. Doesn't work when you're mobile.

Block domains on OpenDNS
Signing up for a free OpenDNS account lets you blacklist certain domains/sites/addresses. You can set your router to use OpenDNS, or set it on individual devices.
Disadvantages: only works at home / doesn't work when you're mobile. I think there's also a limit to the number of sites you can block.

I just discovered an iOS app that can block addresses, anywhere on the device (so in all browsers, games etc.) called AdBlock by FutureMind. It's pretty clever, it sets up a dummy VPN that doesn't work, and redirects requests for blocked sites to that VPN. Sort of like redirecting to 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file.
Advantage: only method to block sites when mobile that I've seen so far
Disadvantage: I think this prevents you from using other VPN.

iOS Bugs

iOS continues its descent. If you're going to say:

• I've never heard of this, therefore it's not a problem
• I don't use this official app that's built into iOS, therefore it's not a problem
• You're using it wrong

Then you can save yourself some time and stop reading further.

You know, in the official iOS Calendar, in month view, there should be a dot under days with events. Should be.

iOS 10
There are lots of ridiculous inconsistencies, both within iOS 10 itself and compared to iOS 9. Like Done/Cancel swapping positions, Up/Down in Mail becoming Left/Right and swapping functions, it's like they're not even following their UI style guide.

iPhone iOS 10 keyboard issues
After typing a punctuation mark or number and pressing space, the keyboard used to return to abc. Except for ', which would revert the keyboard to abc immediately without pressing space, but that inconsistency is as old as iOS. Now, sometimes it randomly doesn't return to abc and remains in the punctuation keyboard, causing you to type gibberish. How did Apple break something they didn't even touch?

iPhone Volume Controls

(I'm specifically calling this iPhone because I don't know if it applies to the iPad)

How many volume settings does the iPhone have? I'm positive of at least 3 independent ones, and maybe 3 more that may also be independent. This is important, e.g. so you don't silence your alarm.

• Ringer - the most important one, also the one you change when you press the volume buttons when the phone isn't doing anything. The screen says "Ringer". Affects: calls, SMS, notifications, alarm clock. Silenced by silence switch, and partially silenced by DND mode EXCEPT THE ALARM CLOCK. Alarm clock still rings even if the phone is on silent or DND mode. Seems to be overridden if e.g. you're using an app that has sound, but you set the media volume (next one) to 0, then the ringer won't ring either.
• Media (speaker) - for music, games and other apps through the speaker. This is the one you control in Control Center. Doesn't seem to be affected by silence switch. If you press the volume buttons when sound is playing through the speaker, this is the one you control, instead of the normal Ringer Volume. Seems like the 3rd party alarm apps I looked at use this volume.
• Call volume - how loud people sound when you're using the speaker that requires you to hold your phone to your face.

Others, could be linked to the first 3:

• Ringer/media/call (headphones) - I know Macs have separate volume settings for the speaker and headphones.
• Ringer/media/call (Bluetooth) - both headset and A2DP (music playback) profiles
• Call volume (apps) - some apps use the smaller speaker you use when you make calls (NOT speakerphone/music playback/ringing). WeChat even uses it for voice messages, so you can listen to them discreetly. I wonder if the volume for this is the same as call volume.
• Speakerphone - is this a media or call volume?
• Find My iPhone - supposed to be able to override some volume settings, is it then always max volume or is it controlled by something else?

FBI: Unlock this iPhone. Apple: No.

In February 2016, the FBI asked Apple to do.. something, to unlock an iPhone used by a terrorist. Now what they actually want and their motives and the implications and all that is all very complicated and wrapped under layers of politics, legal ramifications and PR spin so I don't know what the truth is, much like the school clock bomber case. Only know this - Apple's motives aren't so altruistic, they're motivated by PR and profits as well. Or the massive leak of celebrity pictures a few years ago wouldn't have happened. But this is a huge issue, much like net neutrality (oh my, another can of worms).

Ok so what does the FBI want?

Specifically, the FBI wants us to make a new version of the iPhone operating system, circumventing several important security features, and install it on an iPhone recovered during the investigation.

This makes no sense to me. YOU CAN'T INSTALL/UPGRADE IOS ON A LOCKED PHONE! If you do, you'll lose the data anyway.
Also, why does the FBI need Apple's help with this specific phone anyway? They've broken into locked phones before - look at the Wikipedia article,

It was revealed as a part of the 2013 mass surveillance disclosures by Edward Snowden that the NSA and the British Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) had access to the user data in iPhones, BlackBerry, and Android phones and could read almost all smartphone information, including SMS, location, emails, and notes.

They eventually got into this one without Apple's help. Heck, just go to any phone repair shop and they can probably do it too. This isn't FBI-level difficulty. So what was the FBI asking for?
Also, ok - maybe they want an insecure iOS, for this and future cases, so they don't have to send 1 person to the mall for a day to unlock an iPhone. Why can't they write it themselves? Why do they need Apple to write it?

Delete Photos From Camera Roll But Leave Them On Photostream

Also seen on Google as "delete from camera roll but not photostream". I looked through the hits from 2015 but nobody had a solution. I found one! First, a rant: iOS is doing down the drain. It's sad to see this once shining OS become a buggy mess. Apple is going the way of Nokia if they don't buck up. What's the difference between Photostream and iCloud photo whatever? How do you keep photos organised between multiple devices and the cloud? Why on earth can't you change the default notification sound, and how do they expect this to work in a household with multiple iPhones? It's as though Apple doesn't use its own products. But it's still better than Android.

Soo I want my Camera Roll (CR) to be a "to save to computer" list, and leave things on Photostream (PS) until they expire, to share among my devices. Apple doesn't like that. Because PS has unlimited storage, they don't want to give it to you for free. To be on PS, it has to remain on the CR of the device where the photo was originally created. Deleting it from CR forces you to remove it from PS. Unless you do this.

If you connect an iPhone to a Windows computer, it shows up as a camera device, a bit like USB Mass Storage, but with limited functionality. Anyway, it lets you delete things from the iPhone using Windows Explorer. This removes them from CR. But leaves them on PS. That's it. DELETE YOUR PHOTOS USING WINDOWS EXPLORER AND THEY'LL DISAPPEAR FROM CAMERA ROLL, BUT REMAIN ON PHOTOSTREAM. WARNING this directly deletes your photos, they don't go to the recently deleted album.

Update 15 Apr 16
I found another method, since, you know, Apple doesn't like people using PS and they could "fix" this at any time. Use the app Google Photos (hoo boy, Picasa Web Albums, Google+ and Google Photos is another mess). Open a photo, tap the 3 dots in the top right, then "Delete device copy". This deletes from CR but leaves the PS copy PLUS it appears in the Recently Deleted, if you make a mistake. Something deleting using Windows doesn't do.

While I'm at it, what deleting/copying things from where does:

• Delete from CR - removes from CR, puts in Recently Deleted. Removes from PS, EVEN WITHOUT WIFI
• Delete from PS - leaves in CR
• Save from PS to CR - doesn't create a second copy in PS. But if you delete the copy in CR, it deletes the original in PS too

Swype On iOS 8

I'll be frank - custom keyboards was the only thing I was looking forward to on iOS 8, and they botched this up. iOS 8 is a disappointment so far. I mean, these are the issues not relating to the custom keyboards:

1. Apple backpedaled and killed Photo Stream and Camera Roll, then they backpedaled again and restored Camera Roll in 8.1
2. Annoying reminders that mobile data is turned off for certain apps
3. App Store - STILL no sorting or filtering
4. For no reason, writing reviews in the App Store has a huge font
5. Only cursory, token support for adjusting text size, even in the built-in apps. http://lowvisionrants.com/2013/12/26/where-ios-7s-dynamic-type-works-and-where-it-fails/
6. SMS - swiping the notification from the Lock Screen or tapping it in Notification Center used to bring you to the Messages app, now this is hit-and-miss
7. Did they really create an unremovable app to show me 19 random tips? Apple products have never had good, thorough manuals. I suspect it's because they expect their products to be "intuitive". Seems very stupid to add features and not tell people about them, but whatever. Looks like too many of their features are going unnoticed, so they created the Tips app. But it's of no use and can't be removed.

Apple has lost their famous attention to detail, they can't get their basics right and they're losing ground.

Anyway, I was glad to have more choices for keyboards, because phones have come a long way, but text input is way waay behind. I thought Swype would be much much better, but there are some caveats:

• You can only use one hand.
• You have to get the word right in one try. You can't break up long words. This is especially a problem if you're having sensitivity issues or accidentally move out of the keyboard area.
• You can't use the iOS shortcuts. You can't use any custom shortcuts whatsoever.
• Punctuation is a pain
• The first version had some really really stupid things, like asking me to add single numbers to my dictionary. I know this is their first time on iOS, but they've been on Android for years now, so I expect more than a beta-level development.

The net result is that Swype's benefit is minimal to nonexistent. Limiting yourself to only one hand already cuts speed by about 50%, and Swype definitely isn't 200% as fast as the iOS keyboard.

Since it looks like they still have no idea how to make a user-friendly keyboard, I'm putting this here for them:

1. Always have an undo option
2. TELL PEOPLE WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO REPLACE WHAT THEY TYPE. It's really obvious that there are 2 distinct situations 1) the keyboard suggests a word, but leaves what you type 2) the keyboard will replace what you type with their suggestion. I don't know why they don't make this clear.
3. BE CONSISTENT - if I type some letters and it suggests a word, if I type more letters of that word, THE SUGGESTION SHOULD NOT CHANGE. If I type other letters then remove them, THE SUGGESTION SHOULD COME BACK.
4. I'm looking at you iOS - if you have a space above the keyboard for suggestions, STICK TO IT. Don't suggest words at the cursor anymore. Don't have suggestions all over the page.

I typed "leave early" and iOS suggested "peace early". This is some rage-inducing programming right here. Seriously? Are they even trying?

iOS 8 And Photo Stream

iOS 8 was just released today, and it's made some very serious changes to Photo Stream - it's basically killed it. Seriously, it's no longer there, and Photo Stream isn't even mentioned anymore on iOS 8's webpage. All your photos that weren't in a Camera Roll on any of your devices are gone.

Previously

Photo Stream (PS) and Camera Roll (CR) were maintained as separate, independent sets on your iPhone. You could store and delete photos from either one. I kept CR as a sort of "new" set of photos I hadn't backed up/organised yet, and PS as a recycle bin. PS was limited to 1000 photos on iOS devices, possibly more on computers.

iOS 8

What iOS 8 appears to have done:

• Delete/remove access to PS
• Transfer photos from all CRs across all devices to the new PS. Since I haven't updated my iPad yet, and it still knew what photos were on its CR when the iPad was sleeping, it appears to remember either a) what's on your CR, or b) which photos in the old PS haven't been deleted from your CR.
• new PS/CR are one and shared across all devices. Basically from the app alone, you can't tell which photo came from which device.
• Recently Added appears to be a replacement for Camera Roll, but how long photos stay in it is unknown. Recently Deleted appears to be a replacement for how I used to use Photo Stream (i.e., a recycle bin).

People (and of course Apple) are touting this as an improvement, mainly because PS is no longer limited to 1000 photos, but the huge omission is couldn't they have done this without deleting old PS photos?

Incidentally, in Settings, Photos & Camera, there's an option for Summarise Photos. I figured out what this does is either show all photos in Years or Collections view, or show photos in sets of 10 (i.e. if you have 54 photos, it shows a summary of 50)

There are some photos in my new photo whatever that weren't on any CR and survived, so it looks like even when deleting photos, Apple can't do it properly? Sigh.

Apple discussions, because Apple's discussion interface is worse than Reddit's. Seriously. I had 2 tabs open, signed in, and it wouldn't recognise me in the other tab. No, ok, I opened that discussion in the signed in tab and it STILL made me sign in! What's the difference between Follow and Bookmark? WHY IS MY LIST OF BOOKMARKS SO HARD TO FIND?

Zoom For Mobile Websites In Safari

Mobile sites are great, but for some reason most lose the ability to zoom. This hack creates a JavaScript (I think it's called a "bookmarklet") that re-enables zoom. In case the site moves, create a bookmark with the address:

Missing iPhone Apps 3

I found these apps from iTunes - Store - Purchased - Apps. Aside, this category is useless since there's no link to the app in the store, you can't click or right-click on these apps, except to hide them, making it impossible to find out anything about these apps directly. That's why I had so much trouble finding the first app:

"Timer‰" by Tim O's Studios This is a stupidly named app, since most people don't know how to type ‰. That's why I'm putting the developer here. Didn't appear with restore. No data to backup.

AirBeam This is actually the only app I've seen that can stream video between copies of itself over WiFi, i.e. FaceTime without an Internet connection. Quite useful.

Cattail.Nu Counter This app lets you count a list of items with one tap, with a twist: it can produce a log of the times taps were made. I originally wanted to use this app to keep track of sales.

There were a couple of other apps, but I didn't put them here since they're not critical and they have no data.

Changing App/iTunes Stores' Countries

I used to think changing the country of your App Store/iTunes Store was a trivial matter - use up your existing credit, give them a credit card from your new country, that's it. It's not. Apparently, maybe due to accounting or copyrights, the different countries' stores are separate. After changing your country, your purchase history will be blank!

For the App Store, it doesn't seem to matter so much. There are 2 scenarios:

1. App is available in both countries' stores: People agree that you have to search for the app again, but when you download it, you won't be charged.
2. App is NOT available in the new country's store: If the app is on your device, you can update it. If it's in your iTunes library, you can transfer it to your device. If not, you can't get that app back.

I guess this means that before changing countries, you should make a list of apps you have, and try and store them in your iTunes library. Ideally you can note which apps won't be available in the destination country's store.

For the iTunes Store, it seems more serious. I don't think you can redownload anything at all. At least music has been DRM-free for the past few years, so you can continue to use it, just don't count on iTunes to restore your purchases. I don't know about books/TV/movies.

I haven't tried any of this, it's just what I've noted from people online.

What I wonder is: if you transfer back to your original country, will you get your purchases back? An alternative is to maintain 2 iTunes accounts, but the problem with this is apparently you can only change iTunes accounts on a device once every 90 days or something. I think I'll stick to the same store for now. Looks like most apps are available in all countries anyway.

More Missing iPhone Apps

I discovered more missing apps after I replaced my iPhone:

 360 Panorama didn't restore, but its data was still there.

FromToDate didn't restore, and its data was lost. More disturbingly, there doesn't seem to be any way to export/backup/save data from the app, even if you wanted to.

iPhone 5 Replacement

I finally got my iPhone 5 replaced, because of the dust in the camera. I was lucky to get it replaced when I did, because the service centre was stopping iPhone replacements at the end of this month. My "new" iPhone's screen doesn't have a tint around the border either (wanted to post on this, but didn't), so that's 2 problems fixed.

The refurbished iPhone came with protectors on the front and back. Interestingly, the one on the back seemed to have different sections for the aluminium and ceramic areas. The aluminium section seemed stickier.

But the main reason for this post is, I left some things out during backup, so maybe this will remind someone what to backup. Firstly, iPhone backups are lacking. I'm restoring to the exact same model of device - they even force you to use the same version of iOS - yet you can't do a complete backup? MANY apps do not reappear. I'm wondering if I can get Flappy Bird back again.

Something very strange about backups is: some apps don't appear after the restore, but if you download them again from the App Store, their old data returns. Where is this coming from? Are they pulling it off iCloud? Is restore putting their files in my iPhone without the app? What about apps I don't download again, then? Are their files taking up space? I'd think it was iCloud, but one of the apps was a video player with several GB of files, so it can't possibly be from iCloud.

Anyway, here are some apps of concern:

OSnap! I'm currently using this to take a picture of myself every day (keywords: stop motion time lapse onion skin). Didn't appear with restore. When I redownloaded it from the App Store, my pictures appeared.

Linkus Photo Manager Pro Didn't appear with restore, but this was probably my fault as I disabled backups.

VM Player Appeared with restore

AcePlayer Didn't appear with restore, but when I redownloaded it, my files reappeared. Where did they come from?

Tap Forms Didn't appear. Data reappeared when redownloaded.

MiniKeePass Didn't appear. Data Reappeared when redownloaded. I'm quite fortunate that the data reappeared, because I forgot to back this up and a lot of passwords are only stored here.

Google Authenticator Ok this app has no actual data, but I think the recommended method is to disable 2FA before you send in/erase your old phone. Re Google: I used to use Exchange to sync Google email and contacts. After changing my password, I spent a while trying to get this to work again, messing with the actual password and generated app-specific passwords, but it didn't work. It turns out, new Exchange connections no longer work, but setting up a Google connection (an account in your iPhone to sync with Google) now supports Contacts.

Advanced iPhone Tricks/Tips/Hacks

You know, I think of myself (and readers of this blog) as advanced users. So I don't bother much with lists of iPhone "tricks" that tell you you can take a screenshot by pressing the Home and Power buttons. Here's a list of advanced iPhone tricks:

Display cell signal strength in dBm

Jailbreak: Not required
Reversibility: Reversible

Instead of showing 5 bars/dots, this displays your signal strength as a (negative) number, with higher numbers (i.e. lower in magnitude) being better e.g. -80 is better than -100. I notice that -100 seems average, and the highest I've got is about -80.

1. In the Phone app, call *3001#12345#*
2. This will take you to Field Test mode. In this mode, when you tap the signal strength indicators, they change between dots and numbers.
3. If you press Home now, it'll exit and revert to the dots.
4. To make it permanent (in iOS 7), hold Home and Power until the iPhone restarts and you see the Apple logo.
5. Now, when you tap that area, it'll swap between dots and numbers (doesn't always work).

Hide apps

Jailbreak: Not required
Reversibility: Resets on restart (for better or for worse)
You know how you can't get rid of the default apps like Stocks and Newsstand? In iOS 7, you can hide them. The great thing is, you can still find them by searching your iPhone (swipe down from any home screen), so you can still use them.

This actually makes use of a bug in iOS.

1. You need: app/folder you want to hide on the Dock (row of 4 permanent icons at the bottom), a home screen full of apps/folders and containing at least 1 folder.
2. Tap and hold on the app/folder you want to hide, and double-click the Home button. Multitasking will come up.
3. Tap on the left screen (the home screen) to return to the home screen. The icons will be shaky, and the app/folder you want to hide will be enlarged.
4. Tap on the folder on the home screen (not the one you want to hide), then tap outside to minimise it.
5. Press the Home button, and your app/folder is gone!

Sadly, this resets when you restart your phone, so it's not very permanent.

App Store Popups In Mobile Browsers

I just started seeing a new, very disturbing type of popup yesterday.

Situation

When browsing, without clicking on anything, the device will suddenly switch to the App Store or Play Store and open the page of a very suspicious-looking app (bingo, in my case).

Where it's been seen by others

So far, it's reported on iOS and Android. Safari and Chrome. From the second discussion above, someone reported it happening even on airplane mode and blank web pages, which seems like it's burrowed into the browser, not just from ads on a page. Some have associated it with an app, but this isn't consistent.

Where I've seen it

Only on Chrome, iOS, and only when visiting Imgur's mobile site, and only the user submitted section. Oddly appropriate. I haven't tried using Safari to browse that site. Popup blocker was activated (but had m.imgur.com on the allowed list, which is suspicious), but did not help.

Possible causes

On iOS, so far, it seems to be a popup window that links to the App Store, since it only seemed to happen from one website. JavaScript may be involved, and disabling JS works most of the time.
On Android, it may be associated with the device, and could be considered a virus (see link in Where it's been seen by others).

Photo Stream Not Syncing

My Photo Stream stopped syncing on Windows 7, and https://discussions.apple.com/message/22857409#22857409 fixed it. Specifically,

1. End the processes ApplePhotoStreams.exe and Applephotostreamdownloader
2. Delete everything in C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MediaStream\

I want to add: you don't have to restart your computer. After force-quitting the processes, in iCloud Control Panel the Photos checkbox will be unticked. Tick it and Apply, and you're good to go.

Note: Consider making labels "iCloud" and "Photo Stream".

Update 11 Dec 13
Photo Stream still stops working regularly, but it happily keeps adding "iCloud Photos" to my Favorites.

iOS 7 Lock Screen Wallpaper

iOS 7's lock screen now displays the entire wallpaper image (cropped slightly if you enable parallax), with plain, thin text on top, with no borders, outlines or shading whatsoever. This makes it very hard to read the text, depending on your wallpaper (if your wallpaper is mostly white, the text turns black, which is quite smart, but still not good enough):

(Image from iFixit) iOS 6 and before would put a translucent black overlay over the top and bottom of the wallpaper, and the very top would be totally black.

So, I decided to modify my wallpaper to make it more user-friendly. There doesn't seem to be an app to do this with one click yet.

iOS And Yahoo Mail

I was getting this error when trying to send an email on my iPhone:

Cannot Send Mail. The connection to the outgoing server "apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Online, some people say Yahoo doesn't recognise the server apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com, and to manually set up an account using smtp.mail.yahoo.com instead. I tried that, but it couldn't send either.

The original message had 5 attachments. I tried sending a test message and it went through. I tried a few combinations and it seems to fail because the message is too large, not because of the server. Looks like Yahoo limits mail size from iOS (the web version accepts 25 MB of attachments).

The manual mail account seems to work the same, so I'm too lazy to change it back.

iOS 7 Notes

Installation

After downloading, it gives you 10 seconds to choose if you want to install now or later. If you don't choose, it installs now. It takes about 30 minutes to install and restart.

Updating resets your usage counters!

You can now dismiss banners by swiping upwards! Previously, you had to wait for them to disappear before you could tap on things at the top, e.g. Safari address bar.

Notification Center is now divided into "Today", "All" and "Missed". I think these headings could be better named.
Today shows your schedule. In Settings, you can customize Today View to show a summary, your calendar, reminders, stocks, etc. and confusingly, "Tomorrow Summary".
All is notifications from apps, etc. - what Notification Center was previously. Counter-intuitively, All is not all. It doesn't seem to show your schedule!

Under Messages, there's an option "Show Alerts from Everyone" or "Show Alerts from My Contacts" - what exactly is considered an alert? Play a sound? Vibrate? Notification? Does this mean if I set it to only my contacts, it'll only play sounds and vibrate for messages from my contacts? That might be just what I need. UPDATE: If you set it to from my contacts, it still plays a sound when you receive an SMS from someone else. Not sure what this does.

Use Mobile Data For:

Found in Settings - Mobile. You can set whether individual apps can use mobile data, and see how much data each app uses. I love this feature! You can save data and battery, and even block ads. You can block specific apps while leaving the rest.

It no longer shows you mobile data sent and received separately, now it's just Mobile Data Usage. But now it also shows you data used while roaming.

Background App Refresh

This is a bit confusing - there are now several lists of apps in Settings. Mobile data, above, background refresh, space used, privacy, and more. This controls what apps can do when running in the background. Nice, but not as useful as the mobile data one.

Block List

It now has a block list that you won't receive calls, messages or FaceTime from. Like a permanent DND. However, I don't think I'll use this as I still want to receive ads from some companies, or what if someone on your block list changes their number, and someone important now uses the blocked number? I'll stick to my silent ringtone instead.

Reminders

You can now show completed reminders. I couldn't find this before. This is useful if you have a checklist you want to reuse, e.g. to fly a plane, turn on engine, release brakes, trim something.

Color-code lists (but you only have 7 colors to choose from).

Calendar

I miss the old calendar, which would display a list of events for a day. This calendar can only display a timetable, making you scroll through empty times. It's easy to miss early or late events. UPDATE: If you go to month view, it'll show a dot under days with events, like the old Calendar.

Camera/Photos

Camera now has burst shooting, at unknown FPS. This means you can no longer take a photo when you release the on-screen shutter button, making it slightly harder to compose/steady the camera.

Photos are now divided into Year - Collection - Moment. These photos appear to be taken from your Photo Stream. I still need my Camera Roll to see which photos I haven't transferred yet.

Yes, videos you take are still found in the Photos app.

App Store

App Store now shows the apps you last updated, which is nice. App Store doesn't support system's Text Size setting. Come on, Apple!

Miscellaneous

They said no more skeuomorphisms, but I distinctly see Notes still has a paper texture. And I miss the lines on the paper.

The unlock sound has disappeared, and the lock sound seems to have gained an echo.

The top bar doesn't say "LTE" anymore, it just says "4G". I guess WiMAX is out? I wonder if it still says "E" and "O", and what they mean.

It now says my (third-party) cable may not work with my phone (but it still works). Online, some people say their cables have stopped working totally.
