"Making of" in videos

I saw an advertisement for a news program, where the newscaster was being recorded by a different camera, so she wasn't looking at the viewer, and I noticed something - videos nowadays seem to be showing more of the preparations and "making of".

Previously, the trend in videos was towards perfection, and they didn't show any of this. Now, they seem to show rehearsals, applying makeup and other preparations. An example is news programs with an office as the background. What's the point of that? Is this breaking news and they didn't have time to set up a background? Is this because we've already reached the pinnacle and they don't have anything else to show?
