Rise Of The Makers

Previously, we've seen consolidation of companies and economies of scale in manufacturing, such that everything, even a toaster, will be much more expensive if an individual tries to make it. It made me think that it would be impossible for individuals/small companies to make their own things, which would be bad for competition and ideas.

However, with recent technologies I foresee manufacturing capabilities returning to the masses. It's like a drop of water that has grown bigger and bigger, until it's began separating into smaller drops.
  • Kickstarter
  • 3D printing
  • Arduino
  • Maker and Hacker culture
All these enable people to quickly bring their ideas to life, with little capital.
