Picasa's search isn't very smart. It only seems to search within comments and album names, but not file names. Searching for "2009" returns all the photos in my album 2009, but searching for "jpg" gives no hits! What's the point of searching just within album names? I can see all my albums on the front page!
Google makes some really smart software, but some of its other software doesn't make any sense. Better keep your photos organised.
