Does Nature use wavelengths outside the visible spectrum?

I wonder if Nature uses infra-red or ultraviolet markings. I know some flowers use UV and bees can see in UV. Isn't it coincidental that the spectrum we see is so similar to the one Nature uses? I wonder which came first, and why this range was chosen.
